Annual Community Health Fair a Great Success!

The 2024 Spring Health Fair, co-hosted by Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc. and Valley Residential Services was held at the WASI Center last Saturday, April 13th from 8am to 12 noon. The program for this event was provided by the Alaska Health Fair, inc. organization and funding for the event was generously provided by the Mat-Su Health Foundation as part of their campaign to provide better health services to the community at large. This health services event had numerous local organizations who set up exhibits and booths to help residents find answers to their healthcare questions and concerns. By utilizing the program and healthcare services of the AK Health Fair and volunteer organizations, this event sought to improve the access to and reduce the barriers to healthcare services and information to area residents. This event offered free health care screenings for blood pressure, vision, height/weight and BMI indexes, oral cancer, nutrition, heart health, chronic disease prevention, chiropractic care and general health education. Emphasis of this event was on education, screening personal health, counseling, and appropriate referral as needed.

Again, one of the most popular offerings were the low-cost blood panel tests and screenings for such things as: a Comprehensive blood panel test, A1c Blood test, Thyroid test, Prostrate test, Vitamin D blood test, and a Colo-rectal screening test. In fact, by 10 AM over 123 people had signed up for at least one of the various blood tests! A near record.

If you missed this event, the next joint community health fair co-hosted by WASI and VRS will be held at the Mid-Valley Recreation Center on May 4th from 8am to 12 noon. Come join us then!
