The 2024 Project Homeless Connect held at the Menard Sports Center on Tuesday, January 30th, an annual event was very successful in providing much needed services and information to many area low-income and homeless people in our community. With over 47 agencies and vendors providing a wide variety of services and over 85 additional volunteers who helped on the main floor in so many ways, this year’s event was a huge success by any measure. Over 100 individuals registered as clients and guests and as many as 55 sit-down hot lunches were prepared and served by the Alaska Job Corps Center Culinary Arts team. Another 22 lunches were prepared and sent home for later. Some 83 Goodie bags were assembled (a value of over $3,145) and given away to clients and over $1,000 in additional food items were given away along with over $2,800 in clothing items. At the Valley Residential Services booth, some 20 individuals registered and filled out an application for housing, our largest response to date for this event. Due to this year’s response, plans for the 2025 event are already underway to make next year’s event even more successful!
