VRS and WASI Thank the Mat-Su Health Foundation

Valley Residential Services (VRS) and the Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc. (WASI) along with the many area residents who participated in the recent Community Health Fair would like to thank the Mat-Su Health Foundation for the funding support for the health education program and the reduced cost blood tests made available to the public. This annual event, in its 8th year running was a joint effort organized by the VRS and WASI organizations with a health education program and blood drawings provided by the Alaska Health Fair, Inc. group. The health fair took place at the WASI center on Saturday, March 18th from 8 AM to 12 noon.

Community health fairs provide an access to health education and services for folks who don’t always have access to healthcare or healthcare facilities. This event featured 16 different exhibits/healthcare providers which offered a wide variety of healthcare options for a variety of health fair participants at a one-stop, convenient location. Some 26 volunteers manned the booths and helped at the blood draw stations during the event plus a group of JROTC cadets from Colony High School helped set up the day before. This event was well attended with over 175 people registering and attending various health education exhibits and some 117 getting their blood drawn for high quality, low cost blood tests.

The Mat-Su Health Foundation has been a financial supporter of this community event every year and has been a major factor in our ability to continue to host the health fair in our effort to help produce a healthier Mat-Su community.

We thank the Mat-Su Health Foundation for their continued support of this important health program.
