Success at the 2020 Project Homeless Connect
The 10th annual Project Homeless Connect held Wednesday, January 29th at the Menard Sports Center was an overwhelming success! This event featured over 66 local service organizations who came together in one location, on one day to offer free services, resources and fellowship to over 297 registered clients and guests. The 120 plus volunteers who manned booths and provided services was a testimony of the support to the goal of pooling resources and working together to help build a better and healthier Mat-Su community.
Organizations such as the Alaska Job Corp provided meal service and served over 120 sit-down meals and packed some 77 meals to take home. Over $3,000 in clothing was given away and over $2,000 in food was given away. In addition, 386 goodie bags were shared with the clients and guests which contained a number of personal toiletries, snacks and miscellaneous items donated for this occasion. A wide range of essential services from around the Valley also included such items as legal services, haircuts, social services, foot care, dental care, child care and housing information (Valley Residential Services had an informational booth manned by Housing Compliance Administrator – Angie Mills, and Housing Administrator – Melissa Bybee, and Housing Assistant – Abby Land).
Many volunteers form the Wasilla Middle School and the Huston High School National Honor Societies turned out to help guide clients around the arena to find the type of services they were looking for, to assist in serving meals, to keep the clothing table organized and to help keep the entire area cleaned up. Everyone pitched in to help keep make the day run smoothly and make a success of the event. Thank you everyone!
