Thank you Mat-Su Health Foundation!!!
Valley Residential Services (VRS) and the Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc. (WASI) along with the many area residents who participated in the recent Community Health Fair would like to thank the Mat-Su Health Foundation for their generous funding support for the health education program and the complimentary blood tests made available to the public. This annual event, in it’s 10th year running was a joint collaboration by the VRS and WASI organizations with a health care and services program and blood drawings/testing provided by the Alaska Health Fair, Inc. group. This health fair took place at the WASI center on Saturday, March 9th from 8AM to 12 Noon.
Community health fairs provide an access to health education and other services for folks who don’t always have regular access to healthcare facilities. This event featured some 28 different exhibits/healthcare providers which offered a wide variety of healthcare options for lots of health fair participants. Some 38 volunteers manned the booths, another 20 provided support at the registration, check-in and check-out and other stations and 6 phlebotomists conducted blood draws during the event. Even a group of JROTC cadets from Colony High School pitched in to help setup and take down the event. This event was well attended with over 200 people registering and attending various health education exhibits and some 100 getting their blood drawn for high quality, low cost blood tests.
The Mat-Su Health Foundation has been a financial supporter of this community event every year and this has been a major factor in our ability to continue to host this health fair as part of our effort to help produce a healthier Mat-Su community. We thank the Mat-Su Health Foundation for their continued support of this important health program.
