Project Homeless Connect a Success!

The 9th annual Project Homeless Connect held on Wednesday, January 23rd at the Menard Sports Center was a wonderful success! With over 70 local service organizations who came together in one location, on one day to offer free services, resources and fellowship to over 270 guests was a strong testament of support to the goal of pooling resources and working together to help build a better and healthier Mat-Su.

This day of service to the community featured over 70 vendors and community partners who participated in sharing their resources to any and all who needed them. A wide range of essential services from around the Valley included such items as food, clothing, housing information (Valley Residential Services had an informational table manned by Housing  Compliance Director – Angie Mills ((pictured above with a guest)) and and Housing Administrator – Melissa Bybee), legal services, haircuts, social services, foot care, dental care, child care, etc.  and a hot, mid-day meal was served. Many volunteers also turned out in force to help check in and register the guests, to personally guide participants around the arena to find the type of services they were looking for, to assist in serving the meals, to keep the clothing tables organized, to help keep the area cleaned up and provided security. All pitched in to to help make the day run smoothly.

A special thanks to the Mat-Su Health Foundation for their generous grant providing  financial support of this event without which this event could not be produced. We had great interest and media support and several news stories about the impact this event had on the community.
